Modern Bachata with a great hook from Rosalia ft. The Weekend. “La Fama” discusses the dark side of fame, and how with money and success comes isolation. The metaphor here is that fame is a relationship that is temporary and self-serving, a “jealous and treacherous” lover. In the end, the chorus states that while I’ll never “marry” fame, it will be a love that never goes away. Honestly, the theme of lyrics paired with a romantic genre of music and style of dancing fit together well and makes you wonder if they wrote the song first and then decided how to pair it musically. We’ve seen many English/Spanish crossovers in the pop/reggaetón genres over the last few years, but we commend the Weekend for bridging a gap into a full Spanish track in a genre that has yet to really move into non-Latin mainstream music.
